"Imagine Celtic folk music. Hear those fiddles? Play them fast and add jazzy piano riffs. It's getting very busy, a bit avant-garde. That's the music of southern Vermont quartet Assembly showcasing their new CD, January EP." -The Village Voice

Clocking in at 28 minutes, January EP is a concise statement of aggresively minimal avant-folk sensibilities. Inspired by the work of Bill Frisell, Steve Reich, Yo La Tengo, and the Horseflies, the album is experimental folk music played in the spirit of trance and indie-rock.

January EP was recorded in 6 hours on January 12, 2001. It features five instrumental tracks, consisting of original compositions by Thomas Bartlett and Keith Murphy, traditional Irish tunes, and new interpretions of previously recorded material. CD $12

Recorded at Soundesign Studios, Brattleboro VT on January 12, 2001 by Alan Stockwell. Produced by Assembly.
